This one was hard for me to understand. I’ve been married to a divorced woman for 25 years and we have 4 children together. This one has taken much prayer.
Matthew 5:31-32
31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’[f] 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
In reading and research, divorce was used as a control mechanism for many and was abused by many. In prayer, and in understanding the heart of Jesus, in the same way he speaks of murder being more of a heart issue than a physical action.
Once our hearts are aligned with Jesus and we walk with him, the rules of the Bible and how they are applied become more clear.
We will touch on this again in Matthew 19.
