Jesus allows a demon possessed man to see and heals him. The powers that be start to talk and say that Jesus only healed a demon possessed man because Jesus himself is a demon.
Jesus answers again in such a manner that the accusers are just flattened. He says:
Matthew 12:25–26
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?”
Jesus merely stated that it would not make sense for a demon to cast out a demon; it would only weaken the evil kingdom on Earth. Instead, he states that it makes more sense for the Messiah to cast the demons out to strengthen the presence of the Holy Spirit on Earth. Beautifully and so well said from our patient savior, Jesus Christ.
Then comes the warning. Once Jesus has taught what is truth, it is time to teach what will happen if these thoughts continue.
Matthew 12:32
And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
Jesus came to absorb our stubbornness and sin as the Son of Man, but he warns them to avoid slander against the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness is withheld from those that press against the Holy Spirit in this world.
Jesus knew that He was sent to take all of the punishment from man in order to carry those sins with Him to the cross. As He walked the Earth, you can see the instances that He absorbed our insults and evil. It is nonstop and occurs every day of His life. He endured the insults from the very people He came to save…and He did it with grace. He also taught us how to live life while He walked the most difficult road through our wretchedness.
Lord, I am so amazed by what you did and continue to do for us. It is such a beautiful act of salvation that you have provided for us once we have accepted your gift and have asked you to come into our lives. We love you and thank you for your forgiveness of all of our sins and the sins of mankind.
